Alistair Sawdays review of Pier House:
"Behind a 200-year-old exterior lies a strong and purposeful design that constantly delights. The wide estuary light floods in to Pier House, right on the harbour; enter through iron gates into the garden and follow the path. You will get a lovely Irish welcome. Behind stripped old doors – witnesses to the dockside bustle of Kinsale's past – a contemporary marine theme plays: the hotel is decorated with driftwood sculptures, scatterings of seashells, stocks of reeds, paintings by an artist friend. Natural is the key word: wickerwork sofas, feather duvets and crisp white linen on polished sleigh beds, dark timber floors and white walls, taupe and olive textiles, slate-tiled bathrooms and nothing to shock or jolt. Pat, formerly a master carpenter, oversaw the building of the clever storage spaces for hiding clothes and television sets. Bedrooms are not big but beds are generous, there's a private, plant-graced balcony for almost every room, a pretty garden, and cheerful and knowledgeable local hosts. A wonderful find right at the heart of lovely Kinsale."

Bridgestone Guide review of Pier House:
"When you get to know Kinsale as well as we do, having visited it and stayed here on numerous occasions over the last 20 years, you can forget the immense impact this pretty town wields on the first-time visitor. But, a couple of years back, we were touring with the English writer Howard Jacobson, and scooted down to Kinsale after picking Howard up from the airport. And after two minutes walking around the town, Howard wanted to get a little place in Kinsale where he could write and read, and chill out. two minutes! Blimey! You will experience this "I don't want to go home!" emotion even more strongly should you choose to stay in Ann Hegarty's brilliant house. For a start, it's bang- smack in the centre of town, yet hidden by walls and hedges, so you are at the centre of the world. Secondly, Mrs Hegarty is such a fine hostess, and looks after guests so well in her utterly lovely house, that when it's time to go, you will likely blub. Never mind: you won't be the first, and you won't be the last: it's that kinda place - 100 Best Places To Stay."

Best of best in Kinsale - Date of review: Apr 22, 2011
"Pier House has a very special place in our hearts as it was my sister's hen weekend. Ann personally greeted myself and my sister-in-law on Friday evening before the rest of the party were to join us on the following Saturday The B&B on first entry instantly gave a welcoming atmosphere on account of Ann's hospitality and personality. The rooms were immaculate and especially as it's right in the center and moreover the beds were very comfy with good showers, top breakfast and Ann did everything she could do to accommodate all of us hens and cared about ensuring our hen experience was the best it could be. She has a huge knowledge of the town and was enthusiastic about our night. I would give Ann 5 stars and highly recommend her B&B, whatever the occasion and I wish her the best of luck in the future and as Arnie would say "We will be back" thanks for an unforgeable weekend." "Everything about Pier House made it a perfect stop on our way from Dublin to the Ring of Kerry. We enjoyed our spacious room, the location within walking distance of many dining choices and the assistance of our hostess."

Wonderful guest house - Date of review: Apr 6, 2011
"Stayed here with a couple of friends and loved it! First of all, the location right next to the harbour is nothing short of superb and the rooms beautifully furnished and impeccably well kept. Mine was bright, spacious, welcoming and even had a balcony. The bed couldn't have been any more comfortable.

I think what made our stay extra special was the warm welcome and hospitality we received from Ann. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and we had such lovely chats over the amazing breakfast.

All in all, I can't recommend Pier House highly enough."

"My husband and I stayed here for one night. I enjoyed having a teapot and crackers in the room. The balcony was perfect to sit out and have a hot cup of tea on. We had a hard time finding the entrance, but once we did we were impressed. The rooms were nicely sized in comaprison to others we stayed in. The B and B is well situated in the town for a nice walk for drinks and dinner and just a little strolling along the harbor. The nightlife in this town is great! They have a little bit of everything."

Absolutely unbelievable stay at the Pier House B&B. Ann sincerely cares about each guest's experience and it shows. - Date of review: Oct 19, 2010
"I'll preface this by saying I've never been compelled to write a review for anything, but I have to share what a fantastic experience I had at the Pier House B&B...

On September 20, 2010 I had an (UNBELIEVABLE) destination wedding in Kinsale. ...I can not say enough about how helpful Ann was (co-owner with her husband and gracious hostess)...Ann and the Pier House quickly stood far apart from the crowd. Her sincerity in wanting to help me was evident and since I was planning a wedding from the States I can't tell you how much this was appreciated.

Ann went absolutely over the top to make my wedding day extra special... Ann went just above and beyond to make every interaction with her and anyone at the Pier House special. So much so that by the end of my wedding week I had nicknamed her Fairy Godmother... The best thing I can think of to thank Ann and the Pier House is to let others know just how amazingly special this little haven in the middle of Kinsale is and encourage you to stay at the Pier House B&B. You will not be dissapointed. And I have to say we experienced this same incredible hospitality from everyone we met in Kinsale. It is a very special town and this is a very, very special B&B."
